Hedgeapple Trees

We currently have lots of hedgeapple trees in the woods surrounding our new home. As I look out our picture windows into our woods, I find myself studying these hedgeapple trees. Many of them are all twisted, bent over and gnarly looking. Some of them are invading the space of other trees and starting to pull down on their limbs too. They don’t grow straight and strong like the oaks and pines. Often times, we actually feel like we are bent down and twisted by the weight of the load we carry, maybe even effecting others around us too. We feel like the hedgeapple trees, when our desire is to be straight and strong like the beautiful trees. What is it in your life that gets you down? Are there aspects of your life that make you feel like a twisted, bent over tree.? Shame, guilt, feelings of fear and inadequacies are loads too heavy to bear alone.

A bent gnarled hedgeapple tree.

Psalm 145:14 ” The Lord up holdeth all that fall, and raiseth up all those that are bowed down.” If you feel like you have messed up and fallen to a point so low you cannot get up… The Lord can hold you up. If you are feeling weighted down and bent over by the load you carry… The Lord can raise you up. Psalm 145:18 ” The Lord is nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth.” Don’t we try to hide our weaknesses? Don’t we try to hide our shame and guilt? God is near and wants you to come to Him in all honesty. Reveal what is causing the shame to Him. Give Him your burdens and worries. Psalm 145:19 “He will fulfil the desire of them that fear him: he also will hear their cry, and will save them.” If your desire is to walk straight and strong, not bent and twisted like the hedgeapple tree…He will hear your cry when you call out to Him with your life’s burdens and struggles. He can save you from your fears. He can rid you of gilt and shame. Go to God in truth today, and tomorrow and the next day too. Experience His power in your life to raise you up, up hold you, and fulfill the desires of your heart too.
